The Essential Oil of Coleonema album (Rutaceae) and of a Photomixotrophic Cell Culture Derived thereof

چکیده
The volatile shoot oil o f Coleonema album was found to be composed o f monoterpenes, ses quiterpenes and phenylpropanoids. Heterotrophic and photomixotrophic callus cultures were established from green parts o f the plant. A photomixotrophic cell line contained a heteroge neous population o f plastids and synthesized an essential oil, which differed qualitatively and quantitatively from the green parts o f the intact plant. Substitution o f 2,4-D and pCPA by a lower amount o f N A A and high kinetin concentrations favoured the formation o f essential oil. The heterotrophic callus, when grown on the same nutrient medium, was devoid o f any differ entiated plastids and o f essential oil constituents. Thus, a close correlation o f light-induced plastid differentiation and essential oil synthesis was

Antimicrobial compounds from Coleonema album (Rutaceae).
Coleonema album, a member of the South African fynbos biome, was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity associated with its secondary metabolites. Ethanol- and acetone-based extracts obtained from plants from two different geographical areas were analyzed. A bioassay-guided fractionation methodology was followed for rapid and effective screening for the presence of bioactive compounds. The TL...

The aim of our work was to compare cytotoxic and membrane-damaging effects of O. majorana L. essential oil and linalool on Hep G2 and to investigate their possible protective (antioxidant) effects against H2O2 induced membrane damage. The oils were investigated by GC and GC-MS and antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH and -carotene–linoleic acid assays. Assessment of cell viability was ma...

The essential oil constituents of the peel and leaf of Citrus aurantiumL. (Rutaceae) grown in thenorth of Iran, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Fourteen components representing 99.6% ofthe leafoil were identified. The major compounds were linalool (39.4%), linalyl acetate (38.8%)and a-terpineol (7.2%). Twenty constituents consisting 99.4% of the peeloil were identified. The main components were l...
متن کاملEffect of Some Phytohormones on Podophyllotoxin Production in Cell and Plantlets Cultures of Linum album
The natural lignan podophyllotoxin, a dimerized product of two phenylpropanoid moieties which occurs in a few plant species, is a pharmacologically important compound for its anticancer activities. Optimization of the in vitro cultures might lead to a renewable source of lignans for medicinal uses. In order to maximize efficiency of podophyllotoxin accumulation via in vitro cultures, the effect...
